Symptoms of damp in basement
Where the walls of a structure are below ground they are subjected to lateral damp penetration by either capillary action or hydrostatic pressure. The most effective solution to this problem is the installation of a ‘Platon’ cavity membrane drainage system.
This system incorporates membrane manufactured from polypropylene. This material has a life in excess of 50 years. The installation of these membranes creates an air gap to allow moisture to move freely behind the membrane thus preventing a build-up of pressure and eliminating weak spots.
Any free water is diverted into channels and removed by either drainage or a float operated pump. This technique can transform basements cellars vaults etc. into habitable accommodation adding considerable value to both domestic and commercial properties
Unlike hard tanking systems cavity membrane waterproofing allows for decoration and full use of the basement etc. generally within seven days of completion.
